Critical Strikes works for ALL weapons.

Even for wands/staves. (Just wand someone/something and you'll get the energy when you get a critical hit)

Scythes have the highest crit damage, and assassins can combine their primary attribute with Scythe Mastery, yes... but don't forget you're leaving out the rune, which can make a huge difference in the actual damage output.

The Critical Scythe build works fine, with the right dervish earth-prayers you can keep a constant +24 armor [negating one of the Sins weaknesses] and a constant 9 pips of health regenoration [you could get 12 (to offset degen) but you'd have to give up something for another enchant]. The only place it's really likely to suck is near end-game, going up against all those L28 mobs, where your chance to get a critical hit is greatly reduced by the level difference [I haven't gotten that far with my Sin yet; it takes time to get all 10 characters through the game {not to mention Derv and Para into/through Cantha and/or Tyria!}].
